Enforcement
The attorneys working within the MDEP's General Counsel Office have the authority to handle enforcement actions. In instances where a settlement cannot be reached (through negotiation typically) they are referred to the Office of the Attorney General.
The MDEP's lawyers are subordinated to the department and do not have to report their activities to the Office of the Attorney General.
